The eyrie red fescue ( Festuca nigrescens ), also called blackish red fescue , is a sweet grass (Poaceae) and belongs to the red fescue group ( Festuca rubra agg.). This species is a complex of insufficiently researched clans. There are currently two subspecies mentioned in the literature : Festuca nigrescens subsp. nigrescens and the fine-leaved Festuca nigrescens subsp. microphylla .

Distribution and location

The species is common in large parts of Europe . In Germany it occurs mainly in the drifts and rough meadows of the mountainous region. It also grows in Ruderalfluren and settlement fallow , herbaceous forest clearing hallways , in Nardus grasslands , in oat-Talfettwiesen , in public spaces and equipment. The grass prefers fresh, often nutrient-poor, acid and humus soils.

description

The Horst-Rot-Fescue is a perennial hemicryptophyte . It only forms runners around 2 to 5 millimeters long and therefore grows in a characteristically dense manner. It reaches heights of between 20 and 90 centimeters. The bristly leaf blades are 0.4 to 1, sometimes 1.1 millimeters in diameter. They have five to seven vascular bundles and are usually dark green, more rarely a little blue-green. The tip is smooth. The spikelets are 6.5 to 9.5 millimeters long. The lemmas reach 4 to 6.5 millimeters in length. They carry a 1 to 4 millimeter long awn. The species blooms in June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28 or 42.
