Horst Hensel

Horst Hensel (born May 2, 1947 in Westick near Kamen ) is a German school teacher and writer.

Life

He was born into a family of miners in the Ruhr area , learned an electrical trade, later studied politics , history , economics and education in Munich and Dortmund , where he received his Dr. paed. PhD.

He worked as a teacher at the comprehensive school in Kamen . At the same time he was co-editor and editor of educational journals. In addition, he was and is active at German and foreign universities, in Bielefeld from 1975 to 1978 as a university assistant and from the 1990s as a guest lecturer at the Authors' College in Leipzig , the Tongji University in Shanghai and the Foreign Language University in Guangzhou (Canton) as well as at of the Free University in Berlin. His teaching assignments range from school pedagogy to German literary history and sociology of literature to language politics.

From 1977 to 1979 Hensel was national chairman of the working group literature in the world of work , in 1993 he founded the citizens' initiative round table against xenophobic violence in Kamen and from 1999 to 2002 he was deputy national chairman of the German language association .

Since 2002 he has been honorary chairman of the board of the local radio antenna Unna in North Rhine-Westphalia. Hensel lives in Kamen and Gütersloh , where he is married for a second time. He is the father of two daughters from his first marriage.

As an author, Hensel has published two dozen books so far, including novels, poems, children's books, anthologies with reports and essays, and books on school pedagogy, literary sociology and language politics. He also writes radio plays, plays and opera libretti and was a co-author of television reports. He has published around 200 articles and essays on school pedagogy, history, politics, literature, art and culture in various newspapers, magazines and specialist journals. Hensel has a literary prize for poetry ( "The Poor Poet" / Book Fair Frankfurt 1979) and one for radio plays (radio play competition at the Prize Literature Prize Ruhr get 1988).

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
