Horst Meier

Horst Meier (born July 14, 1954 in Oberkaufungen ) is a German author and lawyer .

Life

From 1973 to 1981 Horst Meier studied law in Göttingen , worked from 1975 to 1976 as a community service provider in the Protestant student community in Kassel and did his doctorate in 1992 on the prohibition rulings against the SRP and KPD (doctoral supervisor was the legal theorist Ralf Dreier ). Meier was a trainee lawyer from 1982 to 1984 (among others with Gerhard Mauz and the Hamburg criminal defense lawyer Uwe Maeffert ) and until 1991 criminal defense lawyer (most recently partner of attorney Knuth Pfeiffer in Kassel).

From 2008 to 2010 he worked as head of studies for law and politics at the Evangelical Academy Hofgeismar .

Meier publishes on legal political issues such as party bans and the protection of the republic, civil rights and (direct) democracy, internal security, and freedom of speech and assembly. He has published articles for taz , FR , FAS and, since 1989, for the monthly magazine Merkur , as well as radio broadcasts for WDR , DLF and NDR (including since 1990 for the essay series thoughts at the time ). Horst Meier lives in Kassel .
