Horst Schirmer

Horst Rudolf Schirmer (born July 26, 1933 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and diplomat . From 1986 to 1990 he was German Ambassador to Uruguay and from 1993 to 1997 Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Council of Europe .

Life

In 1953, Schirmer began studying law and political science at the University of Cologne , which he completed in 1957 with the first state examination. After completing his legal preparatory service, he passed the second state examination. In 1961 he was awarded the dissertation topic requirements for protection of goods Equipment for doctor of law doctorate .

Schirmer joined the Foreign Office in 1961 and worked as a diplomat in Dublin , Madrid , Mexico City and Geneva until 1979 . From 1979 to 1985 he was a board member of Inter Nationes based in Bonn . In 1986 he was accredited as an ambassador in Montevideo . From 1990 to 1993 he was deputy head of the cultural department in the Foreign Office as ministerial director and from 1993 to 1997 permanent representative of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . In addition, he was a board member of the Institute for Foreign Relations in Stuttgart from 1991 to 1995 and a member of the RIAS Berlin Commission from 1992 to 1997 . Since his retirement he has been working as a lawyer in Sasbachwalden and Bonn- Röttgen .

Horst Schirmer is married and has two grown daughters. Since 1954 he has been a member of the Corps Silesia Breslau .
