Horst Thieme

Horst Thieme (born March 27, 1931 in Molmeck ; † August 23, 1986 in Leipzig ) was a German archivist and historian .

Life

Horst Thieme, son of a working-class family, began studying history at the University of Leipzig in 1950 after working as a vocational school teacher in Mansfeld and Hettstedt . From 1954 to 1955 he qualified as a qualified archivist at the Institute for Archival Science . From 1955 he worked in the Merseburg department of the German Central Archives. In 1957 Thieme received his doctorate with a thesis on Prussian economic history under Ernst Engelberg in Leipzig.

In Merseburg, Thieme most recently headed the information and evaluation department. In 1972 he was appointed head of the Leipzig City Archives . He held this office until he left in 1983 due to illness. Thieme wrote numerous articles on the history of Leipzig , published source editions in the sense of Marxist historiography . a. on the history of the local labor movement and promoted the reorganization of the archives. In addition, he was involved in teacher training at Leipzig University and participated in various commissions of the State Archives Administration .
