Horst Wawrzynski (born November 9, 1952 ) is a German police officer , most recently from 2008 to 2012 police chief of Leipzig . In 2013 he was CDU candidate for the office of Lord Mayor of Leipzig.

Life

Horst Wawrzynski grew up in Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich in Bavaria . In 1970 he joined the Bavarian police . To get into the higher service , he began studying in 1984, which he completed in 1986. In 1990 he came to Leipzig for the first time as part of introductory and advanced seminars . From 1993 to 1996 he taught at the Police Command Academy in Münster-Hiltrup ; Subsequently he was head of the riot police in Saxony until 2000 , and then police chief in Chemnitz until 2004 . In Leipzig he had to do with the Michele case and the so-called disco war, but also the argument between Hells Angels and Bandidos . In connection with the so-called Sachsensumpf affair, Wawrzynski filed a criminal complaint in 2008 for defamation against the Leipzig journalists Thomas Datt and Arndt Ginzel, who have since been acquitted . The two police officers, who were allegedly slandered in Datt and Ginzels articles in the mirror and for a while online , had not wanted to put up such a complaint themselves.

The CDU in Leipzig nominated him at a party congress on June 23, 2012 as a candidate for the mayoral election in 2013. In the election campaign, Wawrzynski advertised that he had already been responsible for up to 4,000 people. He called for the simplification of the settlement of companies through approval "from a single source" and wanted to renew schools, streets and gyms.

In addition to the re-elected incumbent Burkhard Jung ( SPD ), the opponents of the election in January and February 2013 included Felix Ekardt ( Greens ), Barbara Höll ( Die Linke ), René Hobusch ( FDP ) and Dirk Ferien (non-party). In the first ballot, Horst Wawrzynski received 25.9% of the vote and thus landed in second place behind the incumbent Burkhard Jung with 40.2%. In the second ballot, Horst Wawrzynski received 28.7%. Burkhard Jung was elected by the SPD with 45.0%.

His designated successor Bernd Merbitz has headed the police department since October 2012 and Wawrzynski was initially on vacation. He has since retired from active service.
