Hot Boys , stylized as Hot Boy $ on all releases , was an American hip-hop group from New Orleans that was made up of rappers B.G. , Juvenile , Lil Wayne and Turk .

history

The group was founded in 1997 and consisted of the two, already regionally known, rappers BG and Juvenile of the two newcomers Lil Wayne and Turk, who appeared at the beginning of his career as Young Turk. All four members hailed from the same neighborhood in New Orleans , had solo careers, and were signed to the same label , Cash Money Records . The merger of the group was therefore also understood as an advertising measure for the label and the individual members.

In the year of the foundation, the first album was released under the title Get It How U Live !! . It was only able to place itself in two charts of the Billboard magazine , but was sold more than 400,000 times independently , especially in the middle south of the USA. After Cash Money Records signed a distribution agreement with Universal Music Group and BG had its first national success, the album was re-released in 1999 .

A few weeks later, the second long player, Guerrilla Warfare, appeared . It was the biggest success of the group reached number 5 on the Billboard 200 and was for sales of over one million units with the platinum record the RIAA excellent. The work also contained the single I Need a Hot Girl , which was the only song by the collective to be listed on the Billboard Hot 100 , where it came in at number 65.

Then the group separated. However, another sound carrier was released in 2003: Let 'Em Burn was a compilation of previously unpublished material that was mainly created during the recording for Guerrilla Warfare . The Hot Boys were again listed in the US album charts, but with position 14 and a six-week stay, their commercial success lagged behind that of their predecessor.

style

The group's raps were classic gangsta and hardcore rap , so the lyrics were mostly about guns, money and sex.

Musically, the songs of the Hot Boys were shaped by the productions of Mannie Fresh , who largely dispensed with samples and instead created bass and synthesizer- influenced beats . Not only because of the origin of the members, the Hot Boys can therefore also be assigned to the Down South .
