The Hotel Prem was a hotel in Hamburg. It was located directly on the Outer Alster in the St. Georg district on the street An der Alster 9 and was one of the top addresses in Hamburg . The hotel's own gourmet restaurant “La Mer” also had an excellent reputation.

history

The Hotel Prem existed from 1912 until its closure in 2005 of an approximately 1830-built ensemble of three white patrician villas on the Alster. The hotel was founded in 1912 by the Viennese- born Rudolf Prem, when he acquired and merged the three patrician houses located next to each other. Rudolf Prem died in 1959, and his wife Hanna continued the White House until 1973. Then it was leased.

The 54-room house with three suites was known for its furnishings, which Rudolf Prem had put together over the years, with valuable antiques , precious porcelain , real carpets, clocks and paintings. A special treasure was a bedroom intended for the Russian tsar . Rudolf Prem bought it in the port in 1917 - it was never delivered because of the revolution. Since then, the pampered guest has been able to sleep in the Tsar's room if desired. Zarah Leander's favorite room later also bore her name.

For a long time, the luxury hostel was an insider tip in Hamburg. Many great and illustrious personalities have stayed in the white patrician villa to enjoy its amenities. Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer , who stayed at Prem 18 times , for example, was known to be polite and reserved. It was said that he had hot water brought to his room to make his own instant coffee. The guest Curt Goetz from Saxony wrote in 1949 in the guest book: “How nice and how comfortable the Läm in Haus Bräm! / The rooms are comfortable, the girls are so cute and everything is so peaceful, there is nothing nice ... "

The last few years

From 1983 until her death in November 1998 the hotel was run by Hanna Prem, known as “Lily of the Valley”, and run by the lessee Ulrich Voit, who also made the hotel garden known again. After Hanna Prem's death at the age of 96, the heirs toyed with the idea of selling the hotel. Ulrich Voit was initially able to prevent this. After his illness in April 2005, “La Mer” was closed. After Voit's death in August 2005, the hotel was sold. The last director, Ms. Carmen Rösler-Voit, went to another hotel with the remaining employees.

kitchen

From Hans Albers is reported he was enthusiastic about the "sole meunière" and Zarah Leander ate most like at the table cooked Tatar. Regular Konrad Adenauer kept ordering his favorite dish, Holstein ham . Although the Prem's kitchen enjoyed a good reputation for a long time, even without star gastronomy, in 1993 Rainer Wolter , head chef of the “La Mer” restaurant , managed to get a Michelin star into the house.

New building

After the sale of the hotel by “Hanna Prem KG” to “Hochtief Projektentwicklung”, the old buildings were demolished in 2006, except for the listed façades of the legendary hotel. They were replaced by a new office building costing 20 million euros. In April 2009 the Hansa Treuhand Group , which includes the shipping companies Hansa Shipping and Seacloud Cruises , moved into the new building .
