The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is a luxury hotel on the Neuer Jungfernstieg in Hamburg . As a grand hotel , the hotel is one of the best hotels in the world and has received numerous national and international awards. It belongs to the alliance The Leading Hotels of the World .

history

On February 24, 1897, Friedrich Haerlin bought a small, inconspicuous house with only eleven rooms and three bathrooms on the Inner Alster and converted it into the luxury hotel Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten . In 1905 an extension was opened as a grand hotel with 57 rooms. In 1911 further properties were acquired in the neighborhood. The hotel has 140 living rooms and bedrooms and 50 bathrooms.

As a result of the First World War , the house at Neuer Jungfernstieg No. 14 was confiscated by the High Command of the Coastal Defense in 1915 . The hotel was only barely preserved. Friedrich Haerlin's three sons were posted to the front. The two sons Otto and Wilhelm died in Flanders . His son Fritz survived the war. During the November Revolution, sailors mutinied and the hotel was fired from from the Alster pavilion . The revolutionary Supreme Naval Council took over the hotel from November 1918 to March 1919. The looted and damaged hotel then had to be completely renovated. The Haerlin restaurant was opened in 1919 and the Jahreszeiten Grill in Art Deco in 1925 .

In 1928, all the hotel buildings were extended and a viewing balcony was built on the 5th floor. In addition, the characteristic green copper roof completed the renovation work.

In 1932 Fritz Haerlin, the founder's son, took over the hotel on Neuer Jungfernstieg. Like his father, he also invested in gastronomy and in the 1930s opened the Café Condi in the Biedermeier style and the rustic Jahreszeiten Keller , from 1998 the Doc Cheng’s .

During the Second World War , the hotel was only slightly damaged by bombing. After the end of the war until March 1952, the hotel served as the headquarters of the British 7th Panzer Division . It reopened on April 4, 1952.

In 1966 the hotel became a member of the hotel alliance The Leading Hotels of the World . 1973 Gert Prantner took over the management as hotel manager.

In 1989 the hotel heirs and the daughters decided to sell the hotel. At that time, Max Grundig and Jürgen Schneider also expressed interest in the purchase . The hotel was sold by Haerlin's heirs for DM 215 million to the Japanese Aoki Corporation , which in turn sold it on to Raffles International Limited on July 31, 1997 . On October 1st, 1997 Ingo C. Peters became the new director of the hotel. On April 30, 2007, the hotel was the first in Germany to belong to the Canadian hotel group Fairmont Hotels & Resorts . Between 2008 and 2010 the hotel was renovated for around 25 million euros.

In February 2013, the property management of the owner family of the Dohle retail chain (HIT supermarkets) acquired the hotel. The management remained at FRHI under the “Fairmont Hotels & Resorts” brand. According to media reports, Dohle is said to have paid around 35 million euros. From 2013, Dohle also carried out extensive modernization of the 156 rooms and suites, restaurants and wellness facilities.

The Haerlin restaurant located in the hotel has been awarded by the Michelin Guide for many years , and Christoph Rüffer has been the head chef since 2010 . In 2012 the restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars. In 2014, Rüffer was named “Chef of the Year” by the Gault Millau Guide and received 19 points. In 2014, the Haerlin restaurant was named "Restaurant of the Year" by the specialist magazine " Der Feinschmecker ".

For the G20 summit in Hamburg in July 2017, the Saudi delegation booked 400 rooms in Hamburg, 160 of them in the Vier Jahreszeiten. The king wanted to set up his throne here, but then canceled at short notice. Instead, the Minister of State Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Assaf arrived.
