Howard Gordon (born March 31, 1961 in New York City ) is an American screenwriter, novelist and producer of television series. He is best known for his work on the US series 24 and Homeland , the content of which he played a key role.

Life and career

Gordon was born on March 31, 1961 in Queens , New York City . In 1984 he graduated from Princeton University .

At the beginning of his professional Hollywood career from the mid-1980s, he worked as a screenwriter for television series such as Beauty and the Beast and Spenser . He worked for the first four seasons of the X-Files mystery series, which began in 1993 , as a screenwriter and producer , initially together with his friend Alex Gansa . As the latter, he was nominated several times for Emmys . He then worked as a producer for the television series Buffy - The Vampire Slayer , Angel - Hunter of Darkness and Secret Project X: On the Trail of Evil .

From 2001 he worked as a screenwriter and executive producer for the multi-award-winning, long-lasting and successful real-time television series 24 . In 2006, at the beginning of the fifth season , he took over the role of show runner from the creator of 24, Joel Nachbarow , which he held until the provisional end of the series in 2010. For the fifth season, he and staff members received the Primetime Emmy Award for the best drama series .

After the eighth season of 24 he was involved as a producer and screenwriter in the creation of the short-lived US television series Awake (2012). In these roles and again as creator and showrunner, he works for the series Homeland (since 2010), which has also won multiple awards, and the 24 sequel 24: Live Another Day (2014). He was also involved in various functions on Series 24: Legacy (2017).

He made his novel debut with the 2011 thriller Gideon's War (Eng. Peacemaker ). It is about the US peace broker Gideon Davis. In 2012 a sequel was released with Hard Target (Eng .: Payday ).

He has three children.
