Hubert Kaufhold

Hubert Kaufhold (born March 19, 1943 in Braunschweig ) is a German legal scholar and orientalist.

Life

From 1949 to 1962 he attended elementary school and the large school in Wolfenbüttel . He completed his law studies (1962–1966) in Münster , Munich and Göttingen in 1966 with the first state examination in law. From 1966 to 1969 he continued his studies in Oriental Studies (Philology of the Christian Orient, Semitic Studies , Jewish Studies ) in Göttingen and Munich, which he had already pursued alongside his legal studies . From 1969 to 1970 he was a research assistant at the Leopold Wenger Institute for Ancient Legal History at the University of Munich , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. (Major: Philology of the Christian Orient, Minors: Semitic and Roman Law ) PhD was. From 1970 to 1973 he completed the legal preparatory service and was at the same time (1971–1973) faculty assistant at the law faculty of the University of Munich. After graduating as Dr. jur. in Munich and the second state examination in 1973, he was prosecutor and judge in Munich from 1973 to 2008 .

Since 1977 he has been teaching the legal history of the Christian Orient at the law faculty of the University of Munich. Since 1979 he has been co-editor of the Oriens Christianus magazine. Since 1986 he has been an honorary professor for ancient legal history, in particular the law of the Christian Orient, at the law faculty of the University of Munich. From 1991 to 2015 he was chairman of the section for Customers of the Christian Orient of the Görres Society . Since 1992 he has been a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (philosophical-historical class). Since 1996 he has been a member of the editorial board of the electronic magazine Hugoye. Journal of Syriac Studies . The Bavarian Academy of Sciences awarded him the Academy Prize in 2011 . The Syrian Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I. Iwas awarded him the Order of St. Ephrem in 2013. The Archdiocese of Munich and Freising awarded him the Audomar-Scheuermann-Studienpreis in 2015. Since 2017 he has been a member of the oriental class of the Academia Ambrosiana in Milan .
