Hubert Locher (art historian)

Hubert Locher (born May 11, 1963 in Walenstadt , Canton of St. Gallen ) is a Swiss art historian . Since 2008 he has been Professor of the History and Theory of Visual Media at the Philipps University of Marburg and Director of the German Documentation Center for Art History - Photo Archive Photo Marburg .

Live and act

Locher studied art history and German at the universities of Friborg, Berlin (FU) and Stuttgart from 1982 to 1987 . In 1992 he received his doctorate in Bern under Oskar Bätschmann and in 1999 he completed his habilitation there. In 1991 he was an editor at the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) and from 1992 to 1995 senior assistant at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) at ETH Zurich . From 1995 to 1998 Locher was a scholarship holder of the Swiss National Science Foundation for the Promotion of Scientific Research (SNSF). After teaching at the University of Bern , he taught at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1999 to 2008 .

His main research interests are art literature and theory of modern times and modern , history of art history, word-image relations since the early modern period , reception aesthetics and -geschichte , museum and exhibition history , history of photography and digital image .
