Hans Dieter Huber (born November 17, 1953 in Munich ) is a German art historian , artist , university professor and author on art , art history, philosophy and sociology .

Life

Hans Dieter Huber studied painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich; Art history, philosophy and psychology at the University of Munich and Heidelberg . In 1986, in the subject of art history, it became the subject of system and effect: questions of the interpretation and meaning of contemporary art. A systems theory approach (Rauschenberg - Twombly - Baruchello) is doing his doctorate. In 1994 Huber completed his habilitation with the thesis Paolo Veronese . Art as a social system .

Between 1997 and 1999 he taught as a professor for art history at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig; From October 1999 to September 2019 he held the chair for contemporary art history, aesthetics and art theory at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. Management of the model project Visual Competence in the Media Age at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart from summer 2000 to spring 2004. Huber is a founding member and board member of the Society for Interdisciplinary Image Science.

He is married to the art historian Hannelore Paflik-Huber , has a daughter and lives in Stuttgart .

Between 1982 and 1989 Huber was a freelance artist and worked in various artistic media. Among other things, he exhibited drawings and prints and took part in various experimental film festivals with his short films and film installations in Super 8. Furthermore, Huber realized performative installations a. a. with Günther Erny, Jörg Burkhard and Dirk Mantei.

He took part in numerous exhibitions and film festivals, including a. at the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart (WKV), InterFilm (Berlin), Osnabrück Experimental Film Festival. He had a contribution in the Super 8 film Overnight Famous by Hannelore Kober, Jonnie Döbele and Stiletto , FRG 1986. Huber was a curator of contemporary exhibitions, a. a. Young Art Forum, Kunsthalle Mannheim 1986.

Art theory

In his publications, Huber deals primarily with contemporary art , systems theory , visual science and art theory . He wrote numerous writings on, among others, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff , Edvard Munch , Joseph Beuys , Bruce Nauman , Dan Graham , Markus Schinwald , Gianfranco Baruchello and published on net art as well as media theory and media history . He has been writing texts on systems theory since the 1980s.
