Hubertus Christ

Hubertus Christ (born July 10, 1936 in Brno ; † March 7, 2016 ) was a German engineer and manager.

Live and act

After training as a machine fitter, Hubertus Christ studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe (today Karlsruhe Institute of Technology ) from 1956 to 1961 . After graduating, he worked there between 1961 and 1969 as an assistant, senior engineer and private lecturer at the Institute for Technical Mechanics. In 1966 he became a Dr.-Ing. and in 1969 he completed his habilitation in technical mechanics. In 1975 he was appointed adjunct professor here.

In 1970 he started at Daimler-Benz AG , where he built up the "Vehicle" research division, which he headed until 1982. From 1983 to 1986 he was Daimler Research Director for Drives, Fluid Machinery, Materials, Technical Physics, Vehicles, Environment and Transport. In 1987 he moved to the Board of Management of ZF Friedrichshafen AG , where he was responsible for the technology department until 1996. When he retired, he moved to the supervisory board of ZF Friedrichshafen AG. He had numerous supervisory board mandates , including at Hilti , Texas Instruments Germany , Vorwerk and the former Karlsruhe Research Center .

From 1998 to 2003 Christ was President of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) . From 2004 to 2009 he was the chairman of the board of the German Association of Technical and Scientific Associations (DVT) .

Christ was a member of the university council of the University of Karlsruhe and chairman of the university council of the University of Ravensburg-Weingarten . He was a member of the board of trustees of the Deutsches Museum , the future award of the German Federal President and of the Stiftung Jugend forscht . At Tsinghua University in Beijing and Jiaotong University in Shanghai he was an Advisory Professor and Advisory Board member of Rhode Island University .

Previously, he was chairman of the board of trustees of the Working Group on Industrial Research Associations (AiF) and chairman of the Research and Technology Committee of the Federation of German Industries (BDI)

honors and awards

In 2005 Christ received the Grashof Medal from the Association of German Engineers . The Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences made him an honorary senator in 2009. In April 2011 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
