Location and landscape

The Plabutsch (summit: Fürstenstand) , as a stick in the narrower sense, rises to the west over Graz and the Graz Basin . The Hubertushöhe hill lies between the districts of Gösting  (13th) north and Eggenberg  (14th) south, with Algersdorf right at the foot. The south and east slopes are populated ( Weingartenweg location ).

History and buildings

The name of the street is reminiscent of the viticulture that used to be practiced east of Graz; there are still some vineyards on the Hubertushöhe today. The northeast slope of Hubertushöhe is dug, the quarries in the former inn. Blue bottle in which the Plabutsch-, dolomite - sandstone was obtained as a building material, are known for various mineral finds.

From the turn of the century a villa area was built, including the Villa Stefferl ( Grabenschlössl , Weingartenweg 12). The road stretches from Algersdorf up the mountain to the Hubertushöhe guest house.

Because of the heavy overgrowth with bush forest, the panoramic view from the inconspicuous summit and the Kernstockwarte is limited. The Kernstockweg , a 16-kilometer hiking trail that leads from Gösting to Straßgang , also runs over the Plabutsch ridge (but not directly past the Kernstockwarte) .

The core control room

The Kernstockwarte is a low viewing platform on the Hubertushöhe. It is named after the poet Ottokar Kernstock .

Josef Valentinitsch, chairman of the Eggenberg Beautification Association, applied for the construction of the control room on September 25, 1928. The building was realized in 1928/29 and financed by donations from the citizens of Eggenberg. The builder was the town builder Franz Spath.

The platform of the round building made of quarry stones and hollow on the inside can be reached via a winding external staircase with iron railing. During the Second World War , the cavity, which is accessible via a ladder, served as a listening station.

The control room is a listed building .
