Hugh Theodore Bronson (* 12. March 1961 in Apen as Uwe Brunßen ) is a German politician of the Alternative for Germany (AFD). He stood in the election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 as a direct candidate of the AfD for the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district and was elected to the House of Representatives (AGH) via the state list.

Life

After graduating from high school in Westerstede in 1980 , Bronson completed an apprenticeship as a tree nursery gardener in 1984 . From 1986 to 1991 he studied literature , philosophy and English at the Free University of Berlin . He continued his studies at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in 1991 and graduated with a master's degree in 1993 . He then worked as a research assistant at the UEA and received his doctorate in philosophy in 2001 . After completing his studies, Bronson founded a conference company in London in 2002 and was Managing Director of Informedia India in Mumbai in 2007 . When he returned to England in 2008, he worked as a freelance program editor for Economist Conferences until 2013 . Bronson moved to Berlin in 2012 and has been a member of the AfD since April 10, 2013. Until he moved into the AGH on September 18, 2016, he taught German and English at a private Berlin language school.

Bronson was naturalized in the UK in 2007 and has held dual citizenship since then . His birth name, Uwe Brunßen, was translated into English as Hugh Bronson. Bronson is childless and married the lawyer Victoria Luise Bronson, née Tuschik, on December 14, 2018.

In September 2017 he was received as a guest speaker at the UKIP's annual party conference in Torquay .

politics

After joining the Alternative für Deutschland , Bronson was Deputy Chairman of the AfD Berlin from June 2015 to November 2017 .

Since 2014 he has been the deputy coordinator of the two programmatic state committees LFA 14 Immigration, Asylum & Integration and LFA 12 Taxes and Finances . In March 2018 he became the spokesman for the AfD district association Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.

Since his election to the Berlin House of Representatives in October 2016, Bronson has acted as political spokesperson for European and federal affairs. In December 2017 he was elected to the Bureau of Parliament. At the state party conference of the Berlin AfD in May 2019, Bronson was nominated as a delegate for AfD federal party conferences.

In February 2018 Bronson was one of the eight-member delegation of AfD members of the state parliament who accepted an invitation from the NGO “German National-Cultural Autonomy of the Republic of Crimea” for a one-week information visit to Crimea . The German politicians found out about the effects of the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU . They were welcomed by the Prime Minister of the Crimea Region, Sergei Aksyonov , for an interview. The trip attracted considerable domestic and foreign press coverage, threatened punishment from the Ukraine and a critical statement from the German government .

In June 2018, Bronson went on another trip abroad to Moscow and the industrial region of Kaluga . A five-person delegation from the AfD parliamentary groups from the Bundestag and the Berlin House of Representatives stayed in Russia for four days. Discussions with politicians and a reception by the Governor of the Kaluga Region, Anatomy Artamonov, took place. The focus of the discussions was the improvement of the economic cooperation with regard to the German supplier companies for the VW branch in Kaluga.

Publications and Media

From 2008 to 2013 Bronson worked as a freelance program editor for the London weekly magazine and conference company The Economist . As a guest commentator, he published articles in the Handelsblatt and the right-wing weekly newspaper Junge Freiheit .

After joining the AfD, Bronson was responsible for the production and moderation of seven episodes of AfD radio from 2013 to 2016. He is a regular guest on English-language radio and television broadcasts, such as B. BBC Global Questions “Politics and the People: A Divided Europe?” And “Eye to Eye” with Romano Bolkovic on the Croatian TV channel HRT1.
