Hugh Lindsay

Hugh Lindsay (born June 20, 1927 in Newcastle upon Tyne , England , † January 19, 2009 in Grange-over-Sands , Cumbria ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle .

Life

Hugh Lindsay initially studied at Ushaw College , but was obliged to serve in the Royal Air Force (RAF) . From September 1945 to January 1948 he was used mainly in India . He then continued his theology and philosophy studies in Ushaw Moor near Durham . Lindsay received on July 19 in 1953 by Bishop John Brendan McCormack in the St. Mary's Cathedral , the ordination . Initially in pastoral care, he later worked in the diocese leadership. In 1959 he was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle under Bishop James Cunningham .

In 1969 Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Cuncacestre and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. He also supported the ailing Bishop James Cunningham. In 1974 he was appointed Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle. He received his episcopal ordination on December 11, 1969, the Archbishop of Liverpool, George Andrew Beck AA ; Co- consecrators were John Gerard McClean , Bishop of Middlesbrough, and James Hagan CSSp , Bishop of Makurdi, Nigeria.

On January 11, 1992, Pope John Paul II granted his resignation due to illness . Lindsay was chaplain to the Augustinian Sisters in Grange-over-Sands until his death .
