Hugh Durham Prince - also Hughie Prince - (born August 9, 1906 in Greenville , South Carolina , † January 15, 1960 in New York ) was an American film composer and songwriter who wrote the song Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from the comedy film Buck Privates was nominated for an Oscar .

Life

Hugh Prince's music has appeared in more than 56 film and television productions, composed, wrote, and directed and scripted the 1950 film drama The Strip Tease Murder Case . From 1940 he composed film music, beginning with Hit the Road and Rhumboogie , for the film Argentine Nights .

In 1942 , Hugh Prince and Don Raye received an Oscar nomination in the category "Best Song" for the song Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from the comedy film Buck Privates with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in the leading roles . However, the statue went to Jerome David Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II for their song The Last Time I Saw Paris from the film musical Lady Be Good . Prince is said to have had a small role in Buck Privates as an actor , but this is not guaranteed.

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy remained Prince's most successful song and was still used in feature films, television productions and shows after his death.
