Hugo da Silva Alcântara (born July 28, 1979 in Cuiabá , Mato Grosso ) is a former Brazilian soccer player . The central defender played a total of 194 games in the Portuguese Primeira Liga , the Polish Ekstraklasa and the Romanian Liga 1 . In 2010 he won the Romanian championship with CFR Cluj .

Career

Hugo Alcântara came to Europe in 2001 after previously playing for various Brazilian clubs. He joined Vitória Setúbal , who had just been promoted to the Portuguese SuperLiga . After relegation in 2002 , the club had to relegate a year later . Alcântara had meanwhile fought for a regular place and remained loyal to the club even in the lower house, where they were promoted again in 2004. In the 2004/05 season he also managed to stay relegated, but in the same year he celebrated his first title by winning the Portuguese Football Cup .

Then Alcântara left Setúbal and moved to league rivals Académica de Coimbra . In 2006, the top Polish club Legia Warsaw brought him , where he could not prevail, so that he returned to Portugal in 2007 and tied himself to Belenenses Lisbon .

In the summer of 2008, the reigning Romanian champions CFR brought Cluj Alcântara to league 1 . There he was only able to prevail in the second half of the 2008/09 season and won the Romanian Football Cup with the club . The following season was the most successful of his career: In addition to another cup triumph , he also won his first championship .

In the winter break 2010/11 he left the club and moved to Montedio Yamagata in Japan . This he left three months later but again and moved back into the home to Athletico Paranaense in the Series A ,

In July 2011 he was signed by the Portuguese club União Leiria for one year. After the end of his contract, he was without engagement for six months. At the beginning of 2013 he returned to Brazil and joined Grêmio Osasco . He ended his career there in 2013.
