Hugo Karl Eduard Prince and former count zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Raitz (born September 15, 1803 in Brno , † April 18, 1888 in Vienna ) was an industrialist and politician.

Life

He was the son of Hugo Franz Altgraf zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Raitz and in 1836 took over the management of the family property. Between 1849 and 1864 he was director of the Moravian-Silesian Agricultural Society and set up a chemical test station for agriculture. Among other things, he was the owner of the ironworks in Blansko , the brown coal mines in Gaya and the hard coal mines in Polish Ostrau .

In the years 1848/49 he was President of the newly established Moravian Parliament . In 1861 he was re-elected to the state parliament and held the position of governor of Moravia until 1867 . In 1857 he became a member of the permanent and in 1860 the enlarged Reichsrat . In parliament he represented the positions of the conservative nobility. In 1861 he became a hereditary member of the manor house . In 1868 he protested against dualism , in which he saw a violation of the historical individuality of the Margraviate of Moravia . In addition, it was directed against discrimination against Czech officials and the Czech school system.

In 1838 he inherited the title of prince from his grandfather. In 1852 he received the title of a secret council and was holder of the Order of the Golden Fleece .

On September 6, 1830, he married Leopoldine Polyxene Christiane Altgräfin zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Krautheim (born June 24, 1805 in Gerlachsheim, † July 4, 1878 in Brühl near Vienna), a daughter of Prince Franz Wilhelm zu Salm-Reifferscheidt -Krautheim. The marriage had five children:
