Hugo Keller (conductor)

Hugo Keller (born August 14, 1887 in Frauenfeld ; † May 5, 1948 in Bern ) was a Swiss singing teacher , conductor , choir director and choir founder.

life and work

Keller got his musical skills at the conservatory in Neuchâtel and worked as a singing teacher at the boys' secondary school and at the daughter trade school in Bern.

In addition to teaching, from 1928 to 1932 he was the conductor of the mixed choir «Harmonie» (since 1970 «Bernese mixed choir») as well as the Bernese singing students and the Bernese women's choir. Keller also founds the boys' choir "Berner Singbuben". He performed with the boys' choir in Swiss cities and invited youth choirs to Bern.

On his initiative, the first international youth singing meeting was held in Bern in May 1948. Choirs from Vienna , Leipzig , Paris , Vorarlberg and various Swiss cantons took part.
