Hugo Schlemüller
Hugo Eduard Schlemüller (born October 2, 1872 in Königsberg , † August 7, 1918 in Bad Orb ) was a German cellist , composer , instrument teacher, music critic and publisher .
Life
The son of the pianist, music teacher and long-time music advisor to the Leipziger Tageblatt Heinrich Gustav Schlemüller (1841-1900) and his wife Louise Elise Wächter, daughter of the organist Heinrich Hermann Wächter (1818-1881), attended the Royal High School in Leipzig from 1882 to 1891 , which he left with the school leaving certificate. He then studied at the University of Leipzig until 1895 . His musical education he received at the Conservatory in Gotha , where the cellist Luise Wandersleb-Patzig worked (1846-1901).
Hugo Schlemüller played as a cello virtuoso in Munich and Leipzig. From 1902 he taught violoncello at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main . In addition, he composed textbooks for cello, virtuoso cello pieces and cello concertos, and worked as a music critic and music writer. In 1910 he founded his own music publisher, which published his contemporary concert programs, among other things .
In 1916 Hugo Schlemüller was called up for military service. In August 1917 he gave up his position at the Hoch Conservatory. He died during a spa stay in Bad Orb.
