Hugo Valentin (born April 28, 1938 in Abtei ) is a South Tyrolean politician.

Life

Valentin studied agricultural science in Vienna and Florence and completed internships in Scandinavia . Professionally, he then worked in public administration and animal breeding organizations, from 1985 to 1989 he was President of the European Association of Fleckvieh breeders . In addition, he was involved in the Istitut Ladin "Micurà de Rü" , which he also chaired for some time.

In 1978 he was elected for the first time as a Ladin candidate of the South Tyrolean People's Party in the South Tyrolean state parliament and thus at the same time the regional council Trentino-South Tyrol , to which he belonged for three legislative periods until 1993. Due to special legal provisions, he was also twice a member of the South Tyrolean provincial government . According to the legal situation in force at the time, the state government had to reflect the ethnic composition of the state parliament, so the election of a Ladin state council was only possible (and mandatory) as soon as two Ladin state parliament members held a mandate. This case occurred for the first time in 1983 with the election of Alexander Langer to the state parliament. As early as 1981 Langer had obviously wrongly declared himself to be Ladin in protest against the declaration of membership of the language group by name , whereby he unwillingly obtained a seat in the state government for the Ladin language group, which the governing parties handed over to Hugo Valentin. From 1984 to 1989, Valentin took over various public administration, construction work and the Ladin language group in the Magnago VI cabinet . He was elected to the state government a second time in 1993. At that time, Martin Flatscher's move up made a Ladin Provincial Council possible. In the Durnwalder I cabinet, Valentin was in charge of a department relating to the Ladin language group for a short period from November 1993 until the new state government took office in February 1994, and then left active politics.
