Hunting High and Low is a song released as a single in 1986 by the Norwegian pop rock band a-ha . It was the fourth and final single from a-ha's debut album Hunting High and Low . The song was written by Paul Waaktaar-Savoy .

The song title is derived from a story by the Norwegian writer Alf Prøysen . In the English translation of Prøysen's story Teskjekjerringa , Waaktaar-Savoy found the phrase “the husband was searching high and low”.

Music video

The music video was directed by Steve Barron . The English TV show Blue Peter showed a making-of of the video to demonstrate the morphing effects -  Morten Harket transforms into different animals.

Cover versions

The band Coldplay occasionally plays this song at their concerts. She indirectly thanks a-ha for the inspiration of her own music. Other cover versions were recorded by the Norwegian jazz singer Silje Nergaard and the Norwegian songwriter Ane Brun .
