action

The five friends Scott, Chris, Johnny, Brian and his girlfriend Natalie go on a trip to spend a few days together at a lake. Along the way, they are traversing a remote area on the edge of a cornfield when some crows hit the windshield of Scott's vehicle. Scott loses control of the vehicle and ends up in the ditch in the adjacent corn field. You can't get a towing service as the friends' cell phones in the deserted area have no coverage. Johnny therefore decides to cross the corn field to get help in a farmhouse behind. He doesn't come back, however, and so Brian and Chris decide to go into the corn field to look for Johnny. But they won't come back either. Natalie becomes impatient and wanders along the edge of the cornfield. She discovers a scarecrow lying in the ditch a few meters from the scene of the accident. When she opens the scarecrow's head, which is covered with a linen cloth, she recognizes human teeth and is startled. Shortly afterwards she is pulled into the corn field by an unknown being. Scott tries to pull her back, but cannot help her and also enters the field.

When they arrive at the house, the friends discover that Johnny has turned into a kind of zombie . He's sitting at a sewing machine upstairs in the run-down house, working on a headgear for a scarecrow. All the fingers of his left hand are fixed to the table with nails. Shortly afterwards he leaves the house and disappears again in the corn field. The friends try to escape through the maize field, but are attacked by scarecrows and some are seriously injured.

Meanwhile, Scott suffers a few visions in which the past events in the yard become visible. A farmer once lived here with his two sons. One of the sons was a rather sensitive person who struggled with the rough country life . So he could hardly watch how his father and his brother cut up a pig. This empathy often made him the target of ridicule from father and brother. One day he is tired of years of humiliation and stabs his brother with a pitchfork . Then he sews a costume for a scarecrow and hangs his own brother in this costume on a wooden cross. The father is suspicious, but cannot prove anything to his son. Since then, the murdered brother's ghost has wandered around the property and the adjacent cornfield.

Little by little, the ghost murders both Natalie and Brian. You now take on the shape of a scarecrow yourself: You enter the building and sew on “your” scarecrow costume in a trance . Scott and Chris realize, however, that the ghost is tied around the house every time one of its victims is at the sewing machine. When Brian enters the house to make his costume, the opportunity to escape has arisen. Scott and Chris try to escape, but Brian is faster and can bring Chris under his control. Chris in turn manages with the last of his strength to hold onto the scarecrow so that Scott can flee to the edge of the cornfield. In the ditch - a few meters in front of the car involved in the accident - he lies seriously injured and sees another vehicle reaching the scene of the accident. A couple get out and look for injuries. Scott is unable to call for help due to the severity of his injuries. He has to watch how the scarecrow lies in the ditch in front of him near the couple.

criticism

"Skillfully made, somewhat simple horror, where you can tell that Brett Simmons has blown a 27-minute short film to feature length."

"Solidly produced horror film that copies its role models quite skilfully, but only in order to comply with familiar genre conventions."

"Solid scary food for horror fans."

“However, tension and horror do not really stir. Because inspiration barely guided the makers of the flick. After all, the young actors convince with their well-founded playing. "

“At first everything seems a little stolen, with typical city teenagers on a supposedly fatal outing in the country, the invisible rustling gray behind the corn, and the discovery of the farm , which was sometimes copied from the old Texas Chainsaw Massacre . But then this effective and atmospheric low-budget horror film , which is prepared for little money, develops character and serves a story that, despite its well-known ingredients, has never been told. A good thing for horror fans. "
