Hygroamblystegium is a genus of deciduous mosses in the Amblystegiaceae family .

description

The mosses grow on and in the water. The stems are simply or irregularly branched, the stem cross-section has a central strand. Paraphyllia are occasionally present. The upright to protruding leaves are eilanzettlich, blunt to pointed and whole to slightly serrate . The strong vein ends in the leaf tip or emerges. The lamina cells are rhombic-hexagonal to narrow rhombic, about 3 to 6 times as long as wide. Leaf-wing cells are not or only poorly differentiated. The spore capsule with a double peristome is inclined, the lid is conical.

Systematics and types

Hygroamblystegium species were traditionally assigned to the genus Amblystegium , the split is not undisputed. According to the Frey / Fischer / Stech system, 18 species worldwide belong to Hygroamblystegium , which occur in temperate zones, in the Arctic and Antarctic.
