Creation and publication

In the years following the first Moderat album in 2009, Modeselektor and Apparat devoted themselves to their own careers. Apparat released his fourth album The Devil's Walk in 2011 and, two years later, War and Peace , the soundtrack for a theater adaptation of the novel of the same name by Leo Tolstoy . Modeselektor founded their own label with Monkeytown Records and released their third studio album Monkeytown in 2011 .

At the turn of 2012/2013 work began on the new joint album, which was officially announced before it was completed at the end of January. In total, the musicians worked on II .

The album was released as a download, CD and record, as well as deluxe CD, deluxe double LP and limited colored double LP deluxe vinyl.

As with the tour for the first album, the design collective pathfinding provides visual support in the form of videos and the arrangement of the stage show. In September 2013 the tour had to be interrupted by Apparat due to a motorcycle accident and concert dates had to be postponed.

The first single from the album Bad Kingdom was released on July 12th as a limited 10 "along with an instrumental version. The Pathfinders created a music video that is in a similar graphic style to the cover. The video was published by the music site Pitchfork , through publication on on July 31st, the band announced on their Facebook page that the album could be listened to as a preview on Spotify .

UNICEF used the second single Gita in a video in October for an initiative against domestic violence .

In January 2014 Moderat released the third single Last Time , which was only included on the deluxe CD edition, along with a video by Scouting and a remix by Jon Hopkins . That same month, II was released as a deluxe tour edition with an instrumental version of the album, music and interview videos, and remixes by Jon Hopkins, Robag Wruhme, and Anstam.

General

In contrast to the first album, which featured among others Busdriver , Paul St. Hilaire and Dellé von Seeed as guest musicians, II does not contain any collaborations.

As with the first album, the cover artwork comes from the graphic artist, musician and long-time friend of the band Siriusmo . Further artwork was created by scouting.

The album unites different styles of music and contains elements from classical techno , electronic pop music , IDM , ambient and dubstep / 2-step garage .
