The Frisia II is a car and passenger ferry operated by the Norden-Frisia shipping company and operates on a regular basis between Norddeich and the East Frisian islands of Juist and Norderney .

history

The Frisia II was built in 1977 and 1978 under the construction number 589 at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . The keel was laid on December 12, 1977, the launch on March 11, 1978. Completion took place in April 1978.

In 1994 the ferry was extended from the original 53.4 to the current 63.3 meters. The ship was provided with an upper deck. During a further renovation in 1999, a new wheelhouse was installed, and in the winter of 2003/04 the Frisia II received a new machine and drive system with controllable pitch propellers. In its current configuration, the ferry can accommodate 55 vehicles and 1355 passengers.

After the 2013 season, renovations (installation of a water mist fire extinguishing system , ventilation) and renovations (including toilets) were carried out at the Frisia II at the Diedrich shipyard in Oldersum for 750,000 euros . The ship has been operational again since spring 2014.

technology

The Frisian II is of two sixteen-cylinder - four cycle - main engine with a power of 800  kW driven. The two machines act on two variable pitch propellers via gears .
