The Frisia VI is a car and passenger ferry of the shipping company north Frisia , which in regular service between the East Frisian Islands Juist , Norderney and Norddeich runs on the mainland.
history
The Frisia VI was built in 1967/68 under the construction number 541 at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . The keel was laid on October 27, 1967, the launch on March 5, 1968. The ship was completed in April 1968.
In 1990 the ferry was extended from the original 47 meters to today's 54.9 meters. Since then it can accommodate 42 vehicles and 1,100 passengers.
On May 12, 2009, the Frisia VI got stuck on the tidal flats for a whole tide because an easterly wind had pushed the ferry onto the edge of the fairway. The Juister sea rescue boat Woltera of the DGzRS could no longer tow the ship free when the water was running out.
technology
The Frisia VI is powered by two twelve - cylinder four - stroke diesel engines from the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (type: SBA 12 M 816 U) with an output of 551 kW each. The two main motors act on two fixed propellers via gears.
