I Am Ωmega , also distributed as Zombie Virus - Planet of the Dead , is an American science fiction and horror film from 2007 directed by Griff Furst .

action

The scientist Renchard lives in a world in which humanity has been ruined by an enigmatic virus. The infected have turned into bloodthirsty, zombie-like creatures that have populated and ruled the cities ever since.

After his family fell victim to those murderous monsters, Renchard barricaded himself as what appears to be the only survivor on a remote farm. The athletic man is exposed here to the daily attacks of the creatures, which he initially defends himself successfully. However, due to the loneliness, his mental state is worrying, he seems to be slowly going mad. One day he receives a video message on his notebook from a young woman named Brianna who appears to be resistant to the disease caused by the virus and who asks him over the Internet to rescue her from nearby downtown Oxnard . Her call for help also includes safe escort to the mountain settlement around Antioch , where she suspects the remains of civilization.

Renchard initially pursues his own plans, which should lead to the destruction of the entire mutant-infested city through a huge demolition. In the course of his preparations, the scientist comes across two other survivors, the shady ex-soldiers Mike and Vincent, who want to use violence to develop an immune serum from the blood of the resistant woman . Against Renchard's wishes, the trio set out for the city center to get Brianna out before the explosive devices connected to the metropolis’s underground gas system detonate. After a short time Mike is killed by the monsters, Vincent manages to secure the body of his friend. The community of convenience breaks up. From now on Renchard has to find the young woman completely on his own, which he succeeds in an exhausting mission.

On the way back, Brianna and Renchard, who have become closer in the meantime, are picked up by Vincent, who suddenly rushes over. He reveals his true intentions and in cold blood shoots his male helper down. The ex-soldier is not interested in saving humanity, rather he is toying with a chaotic, Darwinian worldview - he does not care about his fellow men. Brianna becomes his prisoner, the injured Renchard is left to his fate. However, despite serious injuries and great pain, he did not give up and freed the young woman who had previously been kidnapped. Vincent finds death in an opaque scuffle. Shortly before the detonation initiated by Renchard, which is supposed to wipe out the city, the two manage to leave the danger zone. From their initial sympathy, at the end of the film a love affair develops between the two of them. As a couple, they continue their motorized journey towards the Antioch refuge. In the last scene of the film, however, you can see that not all beings were wiped out with the explosion.

Reviews

"Bad cheap copy of 'I am Legend', which sells its end-time apocalypse as old wine in new bottles."
