Atelier Mondial

The Atelier Mondial program (until 2014 iaab - international exchange and studio program for the Basel region ) enables artists from the fields of visual arts , photography , video , dance / performance , literature and digital art from the three-country region of Basel to work abroad for several months. In return, foreign artists can use the Atelier Mondial residential studios in Basel / Dreispitzareal .

The exchange destinations are advertised once a year and awarded after selection by an expert jury. The selection of guest artists is usually the responsibility of the Atelier Mondial partner organizations abroad. Around thirty artists take part in this exchange every year. Other offers outside of the artist exchange are the two state studios abroad in the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft in Berlin and Paris and another studio in Istanbul , as well as a travel grant and a research grant for art education. The program is supported by the Christoph Merian Foundation in Basel, the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Basel-Stadt, the municipality of Riehen, the cities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Lörrach, and the Alsace region .

The exchange program has existed since 1986 (then still International Exchange Ateliers Basel ) and aims to promote intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue about art. For this purpose, Atelier Mondial maintains contact in particular with countries whose understanding and tradition of art do not correspond to that of the West. Since its foundation, Atelier Mondial has entered into current and former exchange partnerships with the following locations (as of 2014):
