reception

In 1995 Florian Sonneck wrote his master's thesis on the Iberl stage at the Institute for Bavarian Literary History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU). A year later he published a book about the theater. The writer Herbert Rosendorfer , as honorary professor of the LMU for Bavarian literary history, supervised the master’s thesis and also wrote a foreword to the book. In it he describes the Iberl stage as “a place worthy of folk theater” and contrasts the “imaginative” pieces by Georg Maier on the one hand with the plays of the critical folk theater of the post-war period ( Kroetz , Achternbusch , Sperr ) and on the other hand with the “cheap folklore Imitations ”that are shown on television.
