The nature reserve Schmalenautal with a size of 11.8 hectares is located southeast of Holthausen in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the Schmalenautal . The valley with its steep slopes is used as grassland , which is particularly rich in species in the upper valley area. There are also bushes, hedges and trees on the slopes. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. In the bushes, u. a. the red backed .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the Schmalenautal with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
