The wet grassland nature reserve on the Walbecke with a size of 1.5 hectares is located south of Walbecke in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan . The nature reserve Walbeck Valley borders the NSG south of Walbecke .

Area description

The NSG is a part of the Walbecke stream valley . The brook itself flows in the protected part of the landscape Walbecke-Quellbach . The grassland in the NSG is also wet grassland and fallow grassland. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG. The LSG is partially designated as a legally protected biotope according to § 30 BNatSchG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the wet grassland at the Walbecke with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
