The Palmetal nature reserve with a size of 11.7 hectares is located east of Westernbödefeld in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG consists of two streams and floodplain areas. This is mainly about the palm tree north of the Bödefeld sports field to the confluence with the Brabecke . Pieces of the Brabecke before and after the confluence with the Palme also belong to the NSG. The floodplain is taken over by grassland. The rivers are fringed by trees, mostly black alders . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG should protect the streams and floodplain areas with their inventory of species.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
