The Rehhecke nature reserve with a size of 1.6 hectares is located south of Nordenau in the Schmallenberg urban area . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is a juniper grove . In the juniper grove there are individual old, multi-shoot and short-stemmed beeches . The ground is partially covered by grass turf and dwarf shrub heather. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the juniper grove with species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
