The Üntrop nature reserve with a size of 10.9 hectares is located southeast of Lenne in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the structure-rich upper valley area of the Uentrop (also written Üntrop ) with the tributaries Erfmicke and Jaismecke. The Uentrop is a near-natural low mountain range and left side stream of the Lenne . In the southern NSG section, it forms partly pronounced meanders . The valley area is used as grassland . In the peripheral areas, some forest areas are included in the NSG. Rare animal and plant species can be found in the area.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the valley and stream of the Üntrop with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
