The source area of the Henne nature reserve with a size of 10.7 hectares is located southwest of Rimberg in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .
Area description
The NSG is the wooded headwaters of the Henne with the two springs of the Henne. The two source streams flow parallel to the north. The source area and the source valleys are planted with a mixed ash forest with added red spruce . Rare animal and plant species can be found in the area.
Protection purpose
The NSG is intended to protect the hen source area with its species inventory.
As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
