The Schäfers Schlade nature reserve with a size of 2.5 hectares is located southeast of Nordenau in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is a valley area with grassland. Some of the grassland has fallen fallow. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
