The nature reserve consists of a northern ( location ) and a southern part ( location ), which are separated from each other by the Sorpe valley. The southern sub-area is located in the larger FFH area DE-4716-301 Hunau, Oberes Negertal, Renautal and Steinberg , which makes it part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .
Area description
The NSG consists of two grassland areas in a valley and a slope. In grassland there are lean, wet and humid grassland. There are spring swamps with cotton grass and orchids. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland areas with species inventory.
As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
