The nature reserve Unterste Langewieser Seite with a size of 3.8 hectares is located west of Langewiese in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the north-facing slope to the Lenne . The slope goes down from 740 m to 540 m. The forest is largely a shadow slope forest, in which larger stocks of the perennial silver leaf are present. Beech and red spruce grow here alongside other hardwoods . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect the forest areas with species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
