The nature reserve “Im Dümpel” with a size of 7.17 hectares is located east of Dornheim in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Northwest landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is largely a red beech forest with a few oaks. In addition, there is a seepage source in an ash tree . A brook leads from the seepage spring to the NSG. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
