The nature reserve Wesenberg with a size of 37.4 hectares is located between Inderlenne and Nordenau in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is part of the wooded ridge of the Wesenberg. Near-natural red beech forests, some of which are interspersed with spruce forests, cover the mountain. Rare animal and plant species can be found in the area. a. In places carpets of the sprouting bear moss grow .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forests with their species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
