In New York City living, in a secluded Meredith Sanders leads a company in the hotel industry. She grew up in an orphanage. When Agnes, with whom she has been friends since childhood, becomes terminally ill, Sanders travels to her hometown in England .
Agnes dies. Sanders begins a relationship with Lucas Kent, her dead friend's boyfriend, and moves in with him. She learns that her mother, believed to be dead, is alive and finds her. Her mother explains why she put her in an orphanage.
