Ichoca is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Ichoca is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Ichoca in the province of Inquisivi and is located at an altitude of 3625  m in a side valley of the Río Ichoca, which flows into the Río Ayopaya in an easterly direction .

Ichoca is located on a valley slope of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The region's climate is typical of the time of day , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the seasons.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 10 ° C (see climate diagram Quime), the monthly mean temperatures fluctuate between 7 ° C in June / July and just under 13 ° C in November / December. The annual precipitation is almost 600 mm, from May to August there is a dry season with monthly precipitation below 15 mm, in the months of January and February there is a long-term average between 120 and 130 mm of rain.

Transport network

Ichoca is located at a distance of 275 kilometers by road southeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the paved road Ruta 3 leads east to Coroico , and from there Ruta 25 south-east for 160 kilometers to Inquisivi and on to Cochabamba . In Inquisivi, the route 109 branches off in a south-westerly direction and leads over 21 kilometers to Quime . From there an unpaved gravel road leads south and after 25 kilometers reaches Ichoca .

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Quime 92.4 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
