Quime is a country town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Quime is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Quime in the province of Inquisivi and is located at an altitude of 3023  m on the right bank of the Río Khalu . The Río Khalu rises in the Cordillera Quimsa Cruz, fifteen kilometers west of Quime, and flows past the provincial capital Inquisivi to the Río Sacambaya and further into the Bolivian lowlands to the Río Beni .

Quime is located on the eastern slopes of the Quimsa Cruz Cordillera , between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands in the east. The region has a distinct time-of-day climate in which the daily temperature fluctuations are greater than the seasonal fluctuations.

The mean average temperature of the region is 10.5 ° C (see climate diagram Quime), the monthly average temperatures fluctuate between 7 ° C in June / July and just under 13 ° C in November / December. The annual precipitation is almost 600 mm, from May to August there is a dry season with monthly precipitation below 15 mm, in the months of January and February there is a long-term average between 120 and 130 mm of rain.

Transport network

Quime is located at a distance of 250 kilometers by road southeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the paved road Ruta 3 leads east to Coroico , and from there Ruta 25 south-east for 160 kilometers to Inquisivi and on to Cochabamba . In Inquisivi, the unpaved Ruta 109 branches off in a south-westerly direction and reaches Quime after 21 kilometers .

The most frequently used connection from the capital is the paved road Ruta 1 in a south-easterly direction from El Alto to Konani, about 145 kilometers away . There the Ruta 109, paved except for sections at risk of landslides, branches off to Quime in a north-easterly direction . A daily bus runs from La Paz to Quime, another 5 buses run from El Alto. From Konani to Quime there are also shared taxis as soon as they are full.

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the Municipio Quime 70.5 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
