The Río Sacambaya is a section of the upper reaches of the Río Cotacajes and flows on the eastern slopes of the Andean Cordillera in the South American state of Bolivia .

The Río Sacambaya forms on the eastern edge of the Cordillera Quimsa Cruz from the union of the Río Ayopaya with the Río Ichoca-Colquiri at an altitude of 1734  m . The river flows from its formation in a north-easterly direction and after 37 kilometers together with the Río Negro , which joins from the right, then forms the Río Cotacajes . The Río Sacambaya forms the border between the Departamento Cochabamba and the Departamento La Paz along the entire route .

The north-east adjoining Río Cotacajes joins the Río Santa Elena after another 125 kilometers and bears the name Río Alto Beni downstream .
