The Río Negro is one of the headwaters of the Río Beni and is located on the eastern slopes of the Andean Cordillera in the South American state of Bolivia .

The Río Negro rises in the Cordillera Mazo Cruz , in the mountain range that borders the valley of Cochabamba to the north. The source region lies at an altitude of 4171 m, from there the river flows largely in a north-westerly direction and flows into the Río Sacambaya , which from here bears the name Río Cotacajes downstream . The river has a length of 78 km and belongs to the river system of the Amazon .
