Ida Bjørndalen Karlsson (born May 6, 1983 in Sarpsborg ) is a former Norwegian handball player .

Career

Bjørndalen started playing handball at Spydeberg. After she was then accrued for Skiptvet, she moved to HK Trøgstad 97 before the 2000/01 season, with whom she rose to the 1st division, the second highest Norwegian division, at the end of the season. Despite the promotion, several players left the club, making them the cornerstone of the team. She scored a total of 100 goals in 24 games in the 2001/02 season, which Trøgstad still did not reach to remain in the class. She then signed a contract with the first division club Sola HK . Due to a serious knee injury, the backcourt player only played five league games in her first season for Sola. Only in the course of the 2003/04 season did she return to the Sola squad.

In summer 2005 she signed Larvik HK as the successor to Vigdis Hårsaker . Bjørndalen won the Norwegian championship with Larvik in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season Larvik ran into financial difficulties, which is why Larvik had to downsize its squad. At the end of October 2007 she moved to the Danish first division club Viborg HK , who in turn was looking for a left-hander due to an injury. Since Bjørndalen played five league games for Larvik before moving, she won both the Norwegian and Danish championships in the 2007/08 season. The following season she won the championship and the EHF Champions League . In the summer of 2009 Bjørndalen signed a contract with league rivals KIF Vejen . With KIF she reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2010 . She has been playing for Team Esbjerg since summer 2014 . As of May 2015, she was on maternity leave. In 2016 she won the Danish championship. After the 2017/18 season, she ended her career.

Bjørndalen made 35 international appearances for the Norwegian national team , in which they scored 40 goals. She participated with Norway in the European Championships in 2012 and 2014 .

Bjørndalen took over as coach of the 2nd team of Team Esbjerg in 2018.
