Ignacio Pichardo Pagaza

Ignacio Pichardo Pagaza (born November 13, 1935 in Toluca de Lerdo , State of México ; † April 14, 2020 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican politician of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and diplomat , who was among other things minister for from 1987 to 1988 was in control of the Federation ( Secretario de la Contraloría General de la Federación ) and between 1994 and 1995 Minister of Energy ( Secretarío de Energía ) .

Pichardo Pagaza was the son of the lawyer and MP Carlos Pichardo Cruz and his wife Carmen Pagaza Varela. After completing his studies, he first became editor of the youth magazine of the Party of Institutionalized Revolution PRI ( Partido Revolucionario Institucional ) in 1958 and was then secretary for press and public relations of the PRI youth organization from 1959 to 1961, before becoming an employee of the party-affiliated Institute for Political Studies, Economic and Social IEPES (Instituto de Estudios Políticos, Económicos y Sociales) was established. From 1964 to 1967 he was director of the public relations department of the National Foreign Trade Bank and at the same time editor of the trade journal Comercio Exterior .

In 1967 Pichardo Pagaza was elected for the first time for the PRI as a member of the House of Representatives (Cámara de Diputados) of the Congress of the Union (Congreso de la Unión) and represented constituency 4 of the state of México in this until 1970 . During this time he was also President of the House of Representatives Committee on Budgets. After he was then director of the Treasury of the State of Mexico between 1970 and 1971, he served during the tenure of Governor Carlos Hank González from 1971 to 1975 as Secretary General of the government of that state. In 1979 Pichardo Pagaza was re-elected for the PRI as a member of the House of Representatives, to which he belonged until 1982 as a representative of constituency 27 of the state of México. Minister, Governor and Ambassador

On September 11, 1989, Pichardo Pagaza replaced Mario Ramón Beteta as governor of the state of México and held this office until September 15, 1993, when Emilio Chuayffet succeeded him. He then served as the successor to Jesús Silva Herzog from 1993 until his replacement by Rodolfo Echeverría Ruiz in 1994 for a short time as ambassador to Spain .

After his return to Mexico, Pichardo Pagaza replaced Fernando Ortiz Arana as president of the Party of Institutionalized Revolution PRI ( Partido Revolucionario Institucional ) , but was replaced a short time later by María de los Angeles Moreno . He himself then became Minister of Energy ( Secretarío de Energía ) in the government of President Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León and held this office until 1995, after which Jesus Reyes Heroles González Garza was his successor. Most recently he acted as ambassador to the Netherlands between 1996 and 2000 .

His marriage to Julieta Lechuga Manternach gave birth to their son Ignacio Pichardo Lechuga, who was also a member of the House of Representatives between 2009 and 2012.
